Week 12

September 6 – September 12, 2026 · Days 78–84 · 7 entries

Days 78–84 of the One Year Fast project, written up day by day: three full fasting days in the week, what happened on each of them, and the weight, blood pressure and ketone readings recorded on those dates. Every figure shown here is measured on the day, not reconstructed later.

Day 78 · Sunday, September 6, 2026

Day 78 — One Year Fast, Day 78: Biblical Manna, God’s Wilderness Diet & Christ the Bread of Life

Welcome back to Day 78 of the One Year Fast. In today’s video, I take a step back from the biometrics to reflect on the spiritual and nutritional principles found in Scripture. We explore the account of Manna in the wilderness, how God sustained the Israelites with a simple, plant-based, miraculous provision, and how that directly points to Christ as the Bread of Life.

Day 79 — Can Fasting Be a Form of Elitism? Day 79 | The One Year Fast - Alfie Hammersham

Today, we step away from metrics to confront a uncomfortable but essential question: Is voluntary fasting a form of elitism? When you intentionally turn down food while millions face involuntary hunger, the contrast between chosen synthetic deprivation and enforced deprivation can feel jarring. In today’s video, we consider this tension, where modern wellness culture crosses the line, and how to transform that discomfort into constructive action.

Day 80 — The Psychology of Fasting | Subconscious Overeating Before an Extended Fast

As I gear up for my upcoming extended, protracted fast, I noticed a very interesting behavioral pattern emerge over the past couple of days: subconscious overeating. Even when we understand the physiology of fasting, the human brain has built-in survival mechanisms. When your mind registers that food will be unavailable for multiple days, subconscious impulses can trigger cravings and lead you to load up on extra calories, carbs, or larger portions without even realizing it.

Day 81 — Day Fast | Makefast vs. Breakfast, Hydrogen Water & Electrolytes

Today marks a milestone in this journey: I am kicking off an extended 6-day fasting session. In this video, I break down the framework of how I enter and exit extended fasts, exploring the deliberate phases of "Makefast" (initiating the fast with intention) and "Breakfast" (ending the fast gently and purposefully). The 6-Day Fast Protocol: Hydration & Mineral Balance Going six full days requires a calculated, intentional hydration strategy. In today’s episode, I walk through the daily tools keeping my energy steady and my biometrics in check:

Day 82 — Plant-Based Power - Gorillas Diet, Economic Health Trends & Hume Lean Mass Data Day 82 One Year Fast

In today’s episode, we connect the dots between our personal health choices, macro-level societal shifts, and nature's most impressive physiology. Alongside analyzing my latest Hume App body composition visualizations during my 6-day extended fast, we dive into two fascinating perspectives: the massive 35-year transformation of America’s labor economy and the remarkable plant-powered biology of the silverback gorilla. America’s Top Employment Sector by State (1990 vs. 2025)

Day 83 — One Year Fast: Day 83 – Ketones, Dexa Scan & VO2 Max! Building on the baseline

Today is Day 83 of the One Year Fast, and I’m discussing biometric results with a Dexa scan and VO2 max test. This data provides a comprehensive, medically-accurate view of the physiological changes occurring during this year-long journey. In this video, I compare my current metrics with my baseline from Day 1, exploring how this level of prolonged fasting affects:

Day 84 — Will AI Seek a Deity? Could an Algorithm Choose a Technocrat God? (Novacene)

Welcome to Day 84 of the One Year Fast! In today’s episode, we step away from daily fasting metrics to tackle an existential question at the frontier of technology and theology: Will artificial intelligence eventually seek a deity? Building on one of my favourite books: Novacene by James Lovelock. As artificial intelligence scales in reasoning, pattern recognition, and self-organization, how does a non-biological intelligence interpret origins, prime causality, and ultimate authority? More provocatively: if an autonomous system searches for an entity greater than itself, could an algorithm select a leading technocrat—a Musk, Altman, or Hassabis—as its living deity or operational creator? We discuss the psychology of creator-worship, whether code mirrors divine decrees, and how prolonged fasting sharpens the mental clarity needed to unpack these questions. Key Discussion Points - Day 84 Protocol Check-In: Fasting status, mental focus, and energy levels. - The Algorithmic Search for Meaning: Why complex cognitive models seek origin points and governing frameworks. - Technocrats as Modern Pantheons: The boundary between architect, administrator, and deity in the eyes of machine logic. - Determinism vs. Reverence: Can code experience awe, or is "deity selection" simply an optimization loop?

Readings shown on each entry come straight from the health dashboard data logged on that date. The exact procedure, device and known limitations behind each measurement are documented on the methodology pages. For definitions of any term used above, see the fasting dictionary.
